It has been said that society supports the notion that getting married should be easier than obtaining a drivers license, or practically anything else - even a divorce.  We however believe that easy access to marriage without structured preparation can be problematic to many newly married couples.

Since we do much work with couples and families at Mayfair Counselling Service, we have an excellent knowledge base with which to help couples establish marriage as a long term journey. We offer a brief four session comprehensive program affording two individuals time to explore the nature of their relationship.  While the needs of the couples vary in each group, there are some common issues that are helpful to explore.  Issues to be examined may include styles and effectiveness of communication, temperaments, beliefs around sex, money, child rearing, division of labour/roles, etc.  Our structured program offers our expertise to examine current irritants between couples, problem solving styles and strategies, beliefs around conflict, common goals, as well as the nature of their attraction, what brought them together and their strengths.  Participation in our marriage preparation program provides couples with skills, information and the tools, necessary in order to create a foundation for a committed long term relationship.

We always prefer to work with an eager couple entering marriage than with a couple that is pondering exiting a marriage.  Because we are marriage and family therapists we are well equipped in offering such programs and are well aware of what is needed to create a strong bond and committed marriage.  We welcome all referrals.
